So you have just completed your university experience. You’ve had the BEST few years of your life. Going out every week, cooking questionable meals for yourself, bringing whoever you want back to your house and feeling independent for the first time in your life.
But now, you’ve reached that difficult time when you have to face moving back home with your parents. You may be completing a further study, which is great! But for many people, moving back home after university is the only option. It can be quite embarrassing when you tell people you have moved back home. But there are so many benefits from moving back in with your parents!
Let’s start with the biggest benefit of moving home – saving money. You honestly will save hundreds of pounds a month by living at home. Although your parents may ask you for a bit of board money, it won’t cost half as much as renting a flat or house would! Let alone forking out for council tax, bills, Tv licences and food.
Next, there’s no stress. Granted, you may find it stressful being back under a roof with your parents but, it’s the environment you grew up in. You don’t have to stress about who you’re going to live with, or which bill providers you’re going to use. Moving back home is familiar and easy.
There is also, of course, Mums cooking. She will be excited to have you back and there will be home-made meals all around! Your Mum probably assumes that you’ve been living off noodles and cereal for a few years so, say hello to roast dinners and pie!
Moving back home can be difficult to adapt to because you no longer live in the same city as all of your close friends. But you do get to see your old school friends again and they’re some of the best friendships you can have! The chances are your new university friends will visit you too, and you cna always visit them.
It gives you time. Many people finish their degree and still aren’t quite sure what they want to do with their life. If you’re not ready to get a job, you’re not tied to paying rent if you can’t afford it and you have plenty of time to figure out what you want to do next. You might even want to try some new things or go traveling, and living at home gives you the opportuntiy to do this.
And finally, you are surrounded by family. Your family is so special and you’ve just been away from them for a few years. Embrace this time that you get with them and just remember, you won’t be living there forever! Enjoy the benefits of moving back home and relax! You have just completed a degree after all!
