25 things you can do to practice self-care

Credit: Stock Up - The Growing Up Guide

Every day we focus on pleasing those around us. Our friends, family, colleagues, our boss, our pets, but rarely do we think about looking after ourselves. Self-care is so important to keep yourself healthy and happy. It’s not hard to fit into your everyday routine – we’ve even got some tips to help you do just that.

  1. Paint your nails and toes, pick a colour that makes you feel happy
  2. Cleanse and tone your face, then stick a mask on. I love Liz Earle’s Deep Cleansing mask or Soap and Glory’s self-heating mask. Nothing like a bit of skincare to make you feel like you have your sh*t together.
  3. Light a candle (unless you’re in a student house), the light from a candle is soothing as well as the scent
  4. Draw a bath and make it fancy. Epsom salt baths are great if you’ve been under the weather or use your favourite Lush bubble bar, I Iove the Unicorn Horn.
  5. Exfoliate your body in the bath (I like Lush’s coffee scrub because I live and breathe coffee)
  6. Listen to relaxing music, here’s my relaxing playlist.
  7. Use a hair mask or leave your conditioner in a little bit longer so your hair gets a bit of a treatment
  8. Get out of the bath after a good soak and dry yourself off, apply your favourite moisturizer to your face and your fav body butter to your body
  9. Look in the mirror and remind yourself you’re beautiful
  10. Comb your hair if it needs it and dry it
  11. Stick on some comfy pyjamas and climb into bed with a blanket
  12. Put on a feel-good film or read a book you want to read (not your reading for a seminar, not something for your course, something you want to enjoy!)
  13. Meditate or Chant. It makes you feel 1000 times better.
  14. Spritz your pillow with something to make you sleep better, I use the This Works Sleep Spray and it really works for me.
  15. Write down the things you’re grateful for.
  16. Call a friend you want to chat to who always cheers you up
  17. Stroke your pet – it’s actually been scientifically proven to help reduce stress!
  18. Do some yoga/pilates
  19. Make your bed
  20. Have a proper meal – lots of veggies and no chicken nuggets and chips in sight
  21. Read a book
  22. Go for a walk by yourself
  23. Say no and put yourself first
  24. Make time to do something you enjoy – scrapbooking, sewing, painting, singing
  25. Go to bed early, switch your phone off an hour before and read. Get a good nights sleep, it can make you feel so much better!
