Now, I should probably take my own advice when it comes to this post. I suck at “on the go” breakfasts. I grab a bit of bread occasionally, or some cereal (and be forced to eat it without the milk, let’s be real) because I don’t pre-think, or pre-plan what I am going to eat.
I wanted to write this so I could do some research and attempt to not only help myself, but help others too.
When you work a busy out of the house 9-5 job, it can be difficult to factor in what you are eating daily.
Here are 5 “on the go” breakfast ideas:
The most obvious one is cereal bars/breakfast biscuits. They are compact, wrapped and easy to grab.
They are yummy too, which is always a bonus, and they often include energy or additional nutrients that can help put that extra and often needed pep in your step.
My favourites are the Nature Valley Crunchy Granola bars or the Belvita Honey and Nuts breakfast biscuits.
Breakfast smoothies are also a good choice, as they are handy and often super filling. Blend oats into your smoothie for that more wholesome taste, or add a banana for a boost of energy.
Yoghurt is another favourite of mine, especially when combined with granola. It’s so easy to eat, either on the train or at your desk, and it isn’t too messy when doing so.
You can buy pots of yoghurt that come with a granola compartment, such as the Yeo and Go ones, or you can make it up yourself with these really handy pieces of Tupperware, designed for just that.
This way is also more cost effective, as you can buy the products in bulk and make them up yourself.
Muffins. Who doesn’t love muffins? Essentially mini cakes, you can customise your muffin to your exact preferences, adding blueberries for the classic option or shaking it up with poppy seeds and lemon.
You can bake a batch at the weekend and take one every morning to have alongside your coffee. There are healthier options as well with plenty of recipes online that show you how to make low cal, vegan or even gluten free ones.
Finally, my favourite idea has to be the ultimate breakfast burrito. Sounds crazy eh? The most fun idea, and would probably only work if you have more time in the morning,
The breakfast burrito is jam packed with whatever you would like it to be. Eggs, cheese, sausages, bacon, beans, tomatoes, the options are endless. This is not really a make-it-the-night-before gig, so I would allow yourself a little while to construct your master piece.
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, so be sure to eat in whichever way you can.
It sets you up for the day and definitely allows me to work more effectively, as my rumbling stomach is one less distraction.
Whether it’s just a piece of fruit (I wish I was this healthy) or a bacon sandwich (yum!), pre plan what you are going to have so you’re never without.
