Only 22 days until Christmas Day! Not like we’re counting or anything…
If you’re anything like me, as soon as the Christmas lights are up in the village and the TV adverts are flooded with festive promotions – it’s Christmas. There is nothing that puts me in good spirit more than a brilliant Christmas film on the sofa in my fluffy pyjamas with a hot chocolate. T
here are so many Christmas films out there now but I’m going to highlight the ones that you have to watch every year if you want to feel festive!
It goes without saying that Elf is one of the best Christmas films and as soon as December 1st strikes, the DVD is in the player. It’s a heart-warming comedy starring Will Ferrel amongst other famous actors and actresses.
Ferrell plays one of Santa’s elves who discovers his true identity as a human and goes to New York City to meet his biological father, spreading Christmas cheer in a world of cynics as he goes.
How The Grinch Stole Christmas
This has got to be one of my favourite films to watch at Christmas. I grew up reading Dr Seuss books so I find the film adaptations are wonderful.
The Grinch is a fictional character, played by Jim Carrey. He lives on the outskirts of a town called Whoville, and we watch him craftily plan on ruining the Christmas holiday for all of the citizens of the town. A young girl, Cindy Lou tries to befriend The Grinch and well, I won’t give anything away…
The Muppet Christmas Carol
This is the perfect film to watch on Christmas Eve with the whole family. It is a music fantasy comedy-drama based on Charles Dickens’s novel, A Christmas Carol. Michael Caine plays Ebenezer Scrooge and we see Kermit the Frog as Bob Cratchit.
It’s a heartfelt film with parts that make you laugh and cry. It’s a classic family favourite.
The Home Alone franchise is very well-known. I’ve lost count of how many films there are now. They can be watched all year round but the first Home Alone film is the perfect Christmas film.
Macaulay Culkin is the protagonist. He gets left behind by his family as they jet off on holiday and he has to fend for himself over the Christmas period. This film will make you chuckle until your tummy hurts so be sure to watch it this year… And every year!
Love Actually is a Christmas-themed romantic comedy film. It has an all-star cast.
It delves into different aspects of love as shown through ten separate stories involving a wide variety of individuals, many of whom are shown to be interlinked as their tales progress.
The film is set in London about a month before Christmas and it gradually counts down. We see scenes such as a school nativity, Christmas shopping and an office party. It’s a great film to put you in the mood for Christmas! And it has a scene where Hugh Grant dances to Jump. Who would want to miss that? It’s a brilliant film with a brilliant cast!
