20 things to do on Valentine’s Day if you’re single

The Growing Up Guide single flower woman girl happy

I’m not going to lie. Valentine’s Day can often be depressing if you’re single. You’re surrounded by people showing way too much PDA and loved up couples expressing their love for one another over social media. Now, I’m happy for them, don’t get me wrong, but it can be a lonely time. Here are 20 things you could do on Valentine’s Day to not feel so glum!

1. Wake up early

Make the most of the day. If it’s usually “just another day”, make it special in your own way by doing something you’ve wanted to do for a while. Make it worthwhile.

2. Cook breakfast

In relation to the last point, give yourself enough time to start the day right. Who needs breakfast in bed brought to them by a loved one? Not you! You are strong and independent and can make a bomb ass omelette.

3. Pick out your favourite outfit

Sometimes something as simple as wearing your favourite dress can really lift your spirits and make you feel better about yourself.

4. Same goes for makeup

Whip out that red lip and rock it. It doesn’t matter if no one else is going to see you all day. If you feel confident, then great! Do it for you.

5. Plan something exciting

You may be working, but plan something for after work! How about go out for cocktails or meet up with your gal friends?

6. Chill

Or if that’s not your thing, just chill out! Run yourself a bubble bath and enjoy a large glass of wine.

7. Have a pamper session

Buy some face masks and make yourself feel special. A good pamper session never goes amiss!

8. Order a takeaway

Even if you’re on your own, there’s never been a better day to order a takeaway for one and kick up for your feet. You get complete control over what food to have. The best kind of situation.

9. Have a full tub of Ben and Jerry’s

Do I need to even elaborate on that?

10. Buy yourself flowers

They look beautiful in the home and you don’t need a partner to buy you them.

11. Order yourself a Valentine’s present

Whether you’ve been lusting over an eye shadow palette or new top, indulge!

12. Have a movie marathon with your celebrity crush

For me, that’s Sam Clafflin. Because you know, his face.

13. Babysit

I’m sure there are loads of couples who’d love to go out but can’t get childcare. Be their lifeline and offer a hand!

14. Participate in a secret Valentine

Kinda like a secret Santa, just get your single friends together and buy gifts for one another! I did this one year and the outcome was as hilarious as you could imagine.

15. Have a spa break

Valentine’s is the perfect excuse to whisk yourself away and enjoy some me time.

16. Have a social media detox

You don’t need to see those soppy appreciation posts anyway.

17. Do something your ex hated

Because you know, you can.

18. Grab a friend and take advantage of all the couple’s deals

No one will question and you will have a whale of a time!

19. Get yourself on Tinder

That’s if you want to find someone.

20. Buy all the reduced chocolate on the fifteenth

No one’s judging!
