5 reasons you need coconut oil in your beauty regime


Coconut oil has many uses, from frying food to use as a hair conditioner. It should be a staple product in your beauty bag because it can be used to treat dry skin, chapped lips and moisturize hair.

As a natural oil, it is a very useful, multi-purpose product. The oil solidifies at room temperature, but when heated up it will melt at (24° Celsius) and become a liquid consistency.


Coconut oil makes a great conditioner for damaged hair because it helps with re-growth. If it is solid, holding it in your hands for a few seconds will melt it slowly.

Using this as a deep conditioner after shampooing your hair or moisturizing your hair with it, can prevent dandruff and lice appearing in your hair.

You can also use it as a leave in conditioner or as a hair mask for extremely damaged hair. As well as improving the health of your hair, it strengthens and adds shine as well.


If you have skin problems such as eczema or dermatitis, or even just dry skin, coconut oil can be used to hydrate the skin.

Note: Be careful using it on your face in case it causes a rash. Test it on a small area first to see if it is too harsh to use on your entire face.

It is also great for chapped lips during windy weather, which leaves the skin feeling de-hydrated. Leave it on overnight for perfectly smooth lips in the morning.

When you take off your make-up at night-time, coconut oil will help to lift the make-up and waterproof make-up that can be difficult to remove.

It’s already popular to buy products that contain coconut, but using the natural oil itself is incredibly beneficial because it can easily be absorbed into the skin. If your skin is sensitive or you just want to test it out, this is great for everyday use.


Coconut oil helps the body to absorb Calcium, which is amazing for the health of teeth and preventing tooth decay. This oil is suitable to use for oil pulling. (Swishing oil around in your mouth for 20 minutes to remove bacteria and plaque from the mouth.)

Doing this prevents gum disease and gingivitis in the mouth. It is most effective if you do it while regularly brushing the teeth for effective oral care.


You can also cook with coconut oil as an alternative to sunflower or vegetable oil. It does however contain a high amount of saturated fat. Unsaturated fat is better for your cholesterol.

If you are concerned about the health effects on the heart, use olive oil as well which is also a healthier option.


Coconut oil is believed to kill bacteria that causes viruses such as ulcers, hepatitis, throat infections and other diseases and infections. It is anti-bacterial and anti-fungal and has a shelf life of at least a year.
