Over the past year, Micellar water has taken the beauty industry by storm. With it’s overwhelming popularity, traditional makeup wipes have taken a bit of a backseat.
Further to that in fact, makeup wipes have taken a bit of a beating down in the beauty world. Many consumers have been switching out their favourite makeup wipes for micellar water. But is it really worth it?
Contrary to popular belief, micellar water has been around a lot longer than most of us. It was created by the French (of course), as a replacement to their hard and dirty water.
What makes Micellar water so damn good is the tiny micelle components. Essentially, micelle’s are tiny oil molecules, which are attracted to dirt, grime and oil. Quite literally, they seek to draw out any dirt from your skin.
This is compared to your traditional makeup wipe that is typically an alcohol based product that simple moves the dirt around.
Whilst a makeup wipe will remove the majority of your makeup, they’re not designed to go below the skin and remove the dirt. So in comparison to micellar water, they don’t really do that much.
That was up until recently, when brands saw a gap in the market. Many drug-store brands started releasing micellar wipes for those of us not quite ready to make the change.
These wipes are alcohol free and contain the micelle molecules so they will remove makeup, dirt and oil without drying out the skin!
There is of course one big difference. The micelle’s in these wipes have essentially been watered down so they aren’t performing at the same level as pure micellar water. Therefore, whilst your skin may be nice and clean, you’re not getting all the multi-benefits.
Traditional micellar water not only cleans and purifies your face but it hydrates and exfoliates at the same time. It is these multi-benefits that have led to women everywhere switching their beauty routines.
Although makeup wipes are the go to when your feeling lazy and are handy when travelling, micellar water is actually your better option!
Beauty experts still insist on cleansing your face before hand, micellar water is a great lazy-girl alternative!
