Top study tips to help you ace your exams

The Growing Up Guide study exams university

With exam season just around the corner, we know it’s hard to keep motivation up and stress levels down. So, here are a few of our top study tips to help you ace your exams:

Don’t get overwhelmed

For many, exam season essentially translates to stress season, but this doesn’t have to be the case.

Although you may start to feel guilty if you do anything other than revise, remember that you do not need to feel bad, and your mental health is way more important than spending an extra hour revising.

So when you’re starting to feel overwhelmed, make sure you take a break, de-stress, and relax.

 Make use of resources

Sitting in your room writing out flash card after flash card can become a chore, so make sure you mix it up! There are often plenty of resources that are made available to students during exam season, ranging from past papers to presentations, so make sure you get your hands on these.

Also, if you’re really struggling, try setting up a meeting with a teacher to discuss any issues; after all, that’s what they’re there for at the end of the day.

Test yourself

Now I know this can be the dullest part of revision, but it might be the part that will help you succeed.

Familiarising yourself with the exam layout and structure will ensure that you are faced with no surprises on the day of the exam. Timing yourself can also help. This way you will know how to pace yourself, and you won’t feel as rushed when the exam comes.

Take a walk

Lots and lots of advice columns always recommend that you should exercise regularly because it can improve brain functions, but for many of us, this doesn’t sound like the most appealing option.

However, as the warmer months are coming up alongside exam season, you can make the most out of it by taking a light walk in order to de-stress from non-stop revision.

Talk it out

One of the best ways in which you can prepare for your exams is to chat with someone. And, no, this doesn’t mean catching up with the latest Kardashian gossip.

Instead, enlist a willing friend or family member to help you revise; it’s so much easier to verbally discuss what you need to revise, plus this way, it’s extremely clear to find out which areas of your course you’re struggling with.

Be selfish

Managing your social life during exam season can be a difficult task. But you really don’t need to feel guilty if you want to cancel plans.

Ultimately, you have to remember that first and foremost you have to focus on yourself. Really, you don’t want one night of cocktails to jeopardize your grades, do you?

Remember to treat yo’self

If you’re no stranger to exam season, you know that it can really take it out of you. So make sure you are regularly rewarding your efforts.

Whether this is a five-minute study break, or indulging in some sugary goodness, ensure your hard work is honoured. In the end, if you work hard, you can definitely play hard.
