As the sun begins to make a rare appearance, you may be feeling the pressure to have your body ‘summer ready’ despite there being no such thing.
Cue all these diets and eating plans claiming to have you losing weight quickly. And rarely are these plans created by a qualified dietician or nutritionist.
One of these popular weight loss plans are meal replacements in the form of shakes.
This diet tends to replace actual physical meals with a shake. They contain the dietary requirements of an actual meal but lower in calories.
There appear to be various ‘benefits’ to this diet. They look to be nice and easy as you don’t spend much time in the kitchen and you can take your ‘meal’ on the go.
It can be very convenient especially if you live a busy lifestyle. It also can be a quicker way to lose weight and often have very tangible results.
However, meal replacement diets can be problematic.
Some of these shakes can be high in sugar so aren’t as healthy as they claim to be. Not all of the shakes are as nutritious as they claim to be.
Another problem is that after you’ve reached your goal weight, when you go back to eating proper meals, you may find yourself putting back the weight on that you’ve just lost.
This then leads to the yo-yo dieting which is no good for anyone.
In addition to this, can people honestly say they like the taste of them? Many of the flavours used taste very artificial and horrible so what’s the point in drinking something tastes horrible that may not have any benefit.
Life is too short to not enjoy your food.
This isn’t to say there’s anything wrong to with making yourself a smoothie or a protein shake. I’m just saying you shouldn’t use them as complete meal replacements.
If you’re looking to eat healthier there are safer and more effective ways to do so. Do your research and talk to a qualified professional.
Not everybody on YouTube and Instagram who is a fitness guru got that ‘ideal body’ naturally or that they actually know what they’re talking about.
