Looking after your mental health is one of the most important things you can do. If you find yourself struggling mentally it’s important you speak to someone as nobody deserves to struggle alone and it’s important the stigma around mental health is removed.

Your mental health deserves to be looked after the same way as your physical health. Travelling and getting away is often said to help with this. This isn’t to say travelling can be a replacement for medication or therapy but getting away from your usual routine definitely helps to give a different perspective on life.

Having a getaway booked can help give you something to look forward to. You have the dates in your calendars and find yourself counting down and getting excited.

If you’re like me, you may find yourself on YouTube watching travel vlogs or reading blog posts to help you plan your trip to find all the must go-to places and most importantly, where to get good food.

I personally find travelling great for my mind. I genuinely feel so happy and carefree especially when the weather is amazing. Being away from the usual routine of life, no work, out of office message on and no meetings to attend. The list could go on.

Life tends to seem better with the sun shining and when travelling to countries with hotter climates, the weather is usually always better than that of the UK which is a reason already to uplift your mood.

When travelling it can be helpful to keep away from social media or keep it to minimal use. With all the good social media has done it also has its negative attributes. When away, it’s a good time to have a break from social media. The timeline can sometimes be full of toxicity and negativity. The less time spent scrolling, the less likely you’ll have to face with such.

Another downside of social media is that it can lead to comparison which isn’t good for the mind. Keeping your phone on flight mode whilst travelling not only will help save your phone battery but allows you to truly enjoy your surroundings and culture.

Getting away can definitely help uplift your mood and help you to come back to regular life feeling refreshed. It doesn’t always have to be an extravagant holiday. Even a quick weekend getaway or staycation just to escape can help.
